TEETH IN A DAY OR IMMEDIATE LOADING IMPLANTS

Having implants inserted and immediately showing off teeth that are very aesthetically pleasing in the same day is now possible thanks to a technique that is widely backed by scientific literature. This technique, which is called immediate loading, means months of waiting to have teeth inserted after an implant is fixed can be confined to the past.

What does this treatment involve?

Immediate loading is a technique that provides the patient with usability and an aesthetically pleasing result immediately after the dental implants are positioned. It is considered an advanced implantology technique and when performed by experienced professionals it has high success rates.

With the insertion of traditional dental implants, the patient must wait two months to ensure the osseointegration of the implant with the maxilla bone. During this period of time, a removable, provisional dental prosthesis is inserted, although this involves inconveniences for the patient in his or her everyday life that include cleaning, masticatory alterations, aesthetic issues and more. Once osseointegration has been successful, a fixed prosthesis is inserted. Conversely, immediate loading allows a fixed prosthesis to be placed on dental implants immediately or a few days after surgery.

There are several options available in immediate loading treatment:

  • In some circumstances, teeth can be manufactured prior to the insertion of implants and the dental professional will need to adapt them.
  • Another option that is sometimes advisable is to register the implants after placement surgery and order a prosthesis from the laboratory to be inserted in 24-48 hours. Following this treatment, the patient may live a normal life, taking care to follow a bland diet for the first two months as it is during this time when the implants become definitively fixed to the bone.
  • When immediate loading is combined with immediate implants post extraction, this technique offers the patient the chance to enjoy teeth with pieces fixed to the recently placed implants, all in a single session in which the teeth that cannot be saved are extracted. This means the patient can avoid having to go without teeth before the prosthesis is fitted. This new technique, which is increasing in popularity among patients, offers immediate usability and aesthetics. It allows one or several teeth to be replaced at the same time, either in the upper maxilla or mandible. In fact, this technique is particularly recommended in cases in which all of the patient’s teeth must be replaced.

The key question is: how does the implant osseointegrate so quickly that it can support a fixed prosthesis?

The effective results following implementation of this technique can be explained in various ways. In the case of several implants, the join via a rigid metal structure ensures it is stabilised and protected against harmful forces.

Furthermore, dental implants osseointegrate in perfect conditions under non-excessive axial forces, thus it will all depend on the adjustments made by the professional, the way in which the patient bites and the level of care the patient exercises following treatment, especially when maintaining a bland diet during the first two months.

After this time, the implants are perfectly joined to the bone and the first provisional prosthesis that was made in a hurry is usually replaced by a fixed prosthesis that is more aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting. With this new prosthesis, the patient can enjoy a completely normal diet.
