The body gradually begins to resorb it, causing the <strong>jawbone to become narrower<\/strong>. However, with <strong>moderate horizontal atrophy, only 2 or 3 mm of bone may be available.<\/strong> Placing a conventional implant under these conditions would leave some of its threads exposed, reducing stability and increasing the risk of infection and implant failure. <\/span><\/p><p>Palatalized implants are a <b>technique described and developed by Drs. Pe\u00f1arrocha<\/b>. It involves <strong>placing the implant slightly towards the inner aspect of the upper jaw (the palate)<\/strong>, where bone quality and quantity are usually greater. This approach <strong>preserves the buccal cortical bone<\/strong>, while the exposed implant threads on the <strong>palatal side are covered with bone graft particles<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6be469a e-con-full e-flex e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6be469a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;background_background&quot;:&quot;classic&quot;}\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc4e907 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"fc4e907\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-746d3a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"746d3a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">When are palatalized implants indicated?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6a8b1e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6a8b1e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A palatalized implant is indicated <b>when horizontal bone atrophy is present in the upper jaw<\/b> and prevents an implant from being placed in the conventional position. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is one of the <strong>leading treatment options<\/strong>, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/idim.es\/en\/angulated-implants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">angulated implants<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/idim.es\/en\/pterygoid-implants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pterigoid implants<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/idim.es\/en\/dental-implants-valencia\/teeth-in-a-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inmediate loading. <\/a>In some cases, these techniques <strong>may be combined<\/strong>, particularly for <strong>full-arch rehabilitation<\/strong> or to treat more <strong>advanced bone atrophy<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, not all patients are candidates for this technique.
